Beach Schmidt Performing Arts Center

Housed inside Sheridan Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus, Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center began life as a 2,000-seat arena before a 1987 renovation reshaped it into a 1,100-seat auditorium purpose-built for the performing arts. The space anchors FHSU’s Encore Series, which brings in everything from ballet and opera to musicals, symphonies, and bluegrass acts, and it also regularly hosts concerts and recitals from the university’s Music Department.

For couples drawn to a formal, theater-style setting in Hays, the center can be rented through the Memorial Union for both campus and outside community events. It’s worth noting that no front-of-house staffing is included with a reservation, so anyone booking a wedding or reception here should plan to bring their own ushering support; detailed rate sheets, technical specifications, and a seating plan are made available ahead of time to help with that planning.
