Ted Ensley Gardens spans 37.5 acres on the west side of Lake Shawnee in Topeka, offering couples a botanical setting for outdoor ceremonies and photographs. The gardens showcase over 1,200 perennial varieties, 300 annuals, extensive rose plantings, and a mature arboretum of 450 trees. Throughout the property, design features include a gazebo, pergola, pagoda with meditation garden, water gardens, and rock gardens connected by paved walking trails. Many visitors describe the setting as “world class” for its combination of horticultural richness and scenic lake views.

Weddings and formal events are accommodated through Shawnee County Parks & Recreation’s rental process. The gardens provide a naturalistic, photogenic backdrop that requires minimal additional decoration while offering natural shade and multiple ceremony and reception spaces within the landscape.
