Prairie Park is a 72-acre nature preserve on Kensington Road in Lawrence, developed by the City through park bond funds in the late 1980s. The landscape features native grasses, wildflowers, and Mary’s Lake—a seven-acre body of water with a boardwalk and fishing access—making it one of Lawrence’s most scenic outdoor destinations. A one-mile recreational trail winds through the property with self-guided interpretive stations, connecting to the Prairie Park Nature Center. The park includes a one-shelter facility that can accommodate 60 to 70 people, equipped with barbecue grill, electricity, lights, tables, and water.

Additional amenities include basketball and tennis courts, playground equipment, restroom facilities, and drinking fountains. Couples planning outdoor ceremonies can reserve the shelter or picnic areas through the City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation department. The natural setting, native plant palette, and water features create scenic backdrops for wedding photos.
