Opened in 2002 by sisters Julie and Robin Cates, the studio operates on a walk-in basis—no reservation required—with a straightforward model: select unglazed pottery, paint using provided tools and guidance, then return in one week for your fired, food-safe piece. The studio is open Tuesday-Thursday 12-6pm, Friday 12-8pm, and Saturday 10-8pm, with pricing of $7 per painter plus the cost of your pottery.

Julie and Robin bring a unique entrepreneurial background to their studio—both are college-educated and the daughters of parents who owned a local restaurant. The Cates sisters are deeply involved in the pottery painting industry, teaching classes and creating curriculum used by studios nationwide. On the Pot hosts an annual Kansas Mini Convention drawing studio owners from across the country, reflecting the respect the studio has earned within the industry.
