6th & Polk Music & Event Space

6th & Polk Music & Event Space grew out of two overlapping efforts in downtown Topeka: Black Chamber DIY, which had been putting on all-ages punk, rap, and experimental shows in makeshift spaces around the city, and Sound Peak Studios, which was recording many of those same local artists. After years of moving between basements, back rooms, and borrowed spaces, founders Preston Walker and Chad Coleman decided to build a single room that could hold it all, resulting in a 200-capacity venue with a real PA system and a stage built to respect the bands playing on it.

The venue books everything from punk and rock to hip-hop, metal, and country, often within the same month, and keeps tickets affordable while staying rooted in the DIY scene’s values of fair treatment for artists. For a wedding, that translates into a downtown Topeka space with genuine music-venue infrastructure — sound, stage, and atmosphere already built in — for couples who want their celebration to feel more like a show than a standard banquet.
