Set at Sesquicentennial Point Park overlooking Clinton Lake and the Wakarusa River Valley, the Great Plains Art, Food & Maker Festival brings together artists, makers, food trucks, and live music for a single day each fall in Lawrence. Now in its fifth year, the festival is produced by the Great Plains Emerging Arts Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working with the City of Lawrence toward eventually building a permanent amphitheater on the site.
While primarily a public festival rather than a private rental venue, the park is already part of the city’s master plan for outdoor performance space, and the event offers a glimpse of what Sesquicentennial Point can hold: a juried art and maker market, food and dessert trucks, beer from Fields & Ivy Brewery, and a full day of music. Couples drawn to the natural setting overlooking Clinton Lake may find the underlying park worth a direct inquiry with Lawrence Parks, Recreation and Culture about private use outside festival dates.
