Summary: The Dane and Polly Bales Organ Recital Hall has a 35-foot-high pipe organ, 72-foot-high building with thick walls, and was designed to provide optimal acoustics for organ music. The building was planned in reverse, with the contract for the organ signed before the building was designed. The organ builder, Hellmuth Wolff, is widely considered to be among the leading organ builders in the world. Wolff worked closely with the architect and an acoustician to create a space with no artistic compromise. The organ is described as a masterpiece to wrap up the century and carry into the next. The acoustician, Robert F. Mahoney and Associates, helped design the space's acoustics. The facility is considered one of the finest for organ music in the country.
