Questions to Ask a Wedding Photographer Before Signing

By WeddingInKansas Team

Use this conversation to fill gaps in the portfolio and quote. The most useful questions produce details you can compare and later find in the agreement; they are not a test with one “right” answer.

Ask about your actual wedding day

  • Based on our venue, ceremony time, and guest count, what coverage window would you propose?
  • Who will photograph the event, and who is our contact before and on the day?
  • How do you organize family photographs, and what information do you need from us?
  • How do you work in low light, rain plans, multiple locations, or a delayed timeline?
  • May we share a list of people and moments that matter most to us?

Ask about the files and finish

  • What will we receive: edited digital images, a gallery, print products, albums, or something else?
  • What is the stated delivery timeline, gallery access period, and backup/download process?
  • How would you describe your editing, and can we view complete galleries in similar conditions?
  • What permissions do we receive for downloading, printing, and sharing images?

Ask about the agreement

  • What are the total payment schedule, travel or overtime terms, and change or cancellation terms?
  • What happens if you cannot attend? Is a substitute process described in the agreement?
  • Are there venue requirements or timelines that we need to resolve before the wedding?

Write the answer beside the quote. If an answer changes what you expect to receive or pay, ask for that detail in the agreement or a written amendment.
