After-Wedding Checklist: Returns, Records, and Thank-Yous
The first week after a wedding is not a deadline race. Make a short record of items that must be returned, invoices that remain open, and personal decisions you want to make later. Administrative requirements vary by situation, so use the issuing office or relevant agency for any legal or name-change question.
First few days
- Return rentals, borrowed items, and venue items according to the agreement.
- Confirm that personal belongings, gifts, cards, and décor reached the right person.
- Save final invoices, receipts, and vendor contact details.
- Back up photographs, videos, and shared files in a location both partners can access.
First few weeks
- Review any vendor delivery dates and provide remaining information they requested.
- Send thank-yous in an order that feels manageable; start with gifts and people who provided significant help.
- Decide what to preserve, sell, donate, or store from attire and décor.
- Reconcile the wedding budget against actual payments without treating estimates as final records.
Administrative follow-through
If you plan to change a name, update an account, or request a record, make a separate list for that decision and verify the current requirements with the responsible government office or institution. Do not send original documents unless the receiving organization specifically requires them.
A simple archive
Keep a digital folder with the signed agreements, final payment records, guest list, photos, and any certificate or official record you already hold. It makes later questions about vendors, warranties, or personal records easier to answer.
